Welcome to TMRJ

Taupō Marist Rugby Junior Rugby is based at Owen Delaney Park, Taupō. We welcome all children interested in learning to play rugby. Our club is growing every year and we are excited to have a range of teams to play for.

Register for the club

Search for Taupō Marist Junior Rugby when you “Register to a Club”

Come to a weigh-in day at the club.

We’ll find the right team for you. All players playing U8s and above need to be officially weighed in on our scales. All new players must bring in proof of player age e.g. Passport or Birth Certificate. Subs can be paid at this time or as part of the online registration process.

Junior Rugby Season Dates:

First Game – 17rd of May 2025

Last Game – 30th of August 2025

What's Included

Registration includes kit, coaching, and access to club facilities.

Subs: $90 per player.

Uniform: Jersey, shorts and hoodies supplied on loan – hand these back at the end of the season

Socks – We have TMJR socks which are included in your registration fees

Trainings: Training nights for all grades will be announced when the teams are assembled and coaches are appointed. In the past this has been on a Wednesday afternoon.

Volunteer Opportunities

We welcome parents and whānau to support the club on and off the field.

FAQs & Key Info

Games generally start early May, after the school holidays, however teams will start to practice in late March, early April

We’ll usually open registration in February / March, so we have time to attract as many kids as possible and then get some certainty around number of players and how many teams we can form

The regular competition, including finals generally finishes late August. We’re fortunate enough to also host the Globals Tournament at Owen Delaney which generally falls around late September for U10’s and above. We always try and get a couple of teams registered for this amazing tournament that attracts over 150 teams from around NZ and AU.

Taupō Rugby currently have the following grades;

U6 Ripper
U7 Ripper
U8 First Year Tackle
U9 Second Year Tackle
U11
U13

For the U6 to U8 grades you have 7 players on the field, so we generally try and have 10-12 players per team

For U9 to U11 grades you have 10 players on the field, so ideally you’ll have 13-16 players

For U13 grade, you’ll have the full 15 players, so we like to have squads of 20-23 players
