Acts as a key administrative officer, responsible for managing club records, communication, and supporting the club’s operations. They act as a point of contact for members, affiliated bodies, and the public, ensuring smooth communication and organization. Also acts as a key liaison between Junior clubs and the Taupō Sub Union, including the junior learn to referee program
Gerard Troy brings over 40 years of dedication to NZ Marist clubs to his role as Secretary of the Taupō Marist Rugby Management Committee. His deep roots in Marist rugby began with his father, Bernie, a Hawkes Bay, North Auckland rep, and AB Trialist alongside Meads, Whinerary and Clark. Growing up in Hutt Valley, Gerard idolized Marist legend Bernie Fraser, witnessing the “green and white” consistently punch above their weight. Gerard’s playing career included 1XVs for St Patrick’s Silverstream and grade rugby for Hutt Marist Old Boys and Marist St Pats. His coaching journey started in 2014 as an assistant coach for OBU U21s, and he has since proudly coached his son’s Taupō Marist teams for the past four years.
Professionally, Gerard is a Senior Manager for Xero, where he manages global procurement. His career has provided him with valuable experience in the US, UK, and Australia. As Secretary, Gerard leverages his extensive background in rugby and his professional expertise in management and procurement to ensure accurate record-keeping of club meetings, resolutions and financial discussions, and facilitate clear and cohesive communication across all club levels. He is committed to fostering unity within the club and strategically supporting the overall success of Taupō Marist Rugby, from managing administrative tasks to contributing to key discussions on funding and community engagement.
Gerard actively participates in the Taupō Junior rugby sub-union committee as a representative of Taupō Marist, focusing specifically on the development of a Junior Referee program that enables young individuals to officiate junior matches from the Under 6 to Under 9 age groups.
